The portrait was long believed to depict a poet. Later examination found the smile too wide, the eyes too cruel, and the verse written in something that was not ink. Spaulding the Poet is believed to have wandered the Murderverse as a traveling entertainer, leaving behind jokes, bodies, and unfinished poems no sane person should recite aloud.
